About my doctoral time:

I have been a doctoral student at Prof. Dr. Jürgen G. Körner since 22th of August, 1994. The first subject of my thesis was the calculation of electron-positron-annihilation processes, resulting in polarized massive quarks. We calculated the first order contributions to the polarization using utilities like MATHEMATICA and various graphics programs. In this work we collaborated with Dr. Michael M. Tung, wo had made his PhD at Prof. Körner in 1993.

The second subject of my thesis, the anomalous dimension in the calculation of two-loop corrections to the mesonic and baryonic vertex, was result of a collaboration between Prof. Körner, Dr. Oleg I. Yakovlev and me. Using these results, we calculated first order radiative corrections to to the two-point correlator for the baryonic current related to this the radiative corrected diagonal and non-diagonal QCD sum rules.

On February 21, 1997, I passed my PhD examination with "magna cum laude".

About my postdoctoral time at the Universität Mainz:

Since March 1996 I co-attended the work of Dipl. Phys. Alfonso Leyva, PhD student at Prof. Körner, whos first subject was gluon polarization effects. For the second theme, namely the calculation of spin-spin correlations in electron-positron-annihilations into quarks and gluons, we were joined by Prof. Körner's PhD student Dipl. Phys. Volker Kleinschmidt since February until he left the Institute, since April by Dipl. Phys. Marcus Mauser.

In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Karl Schilcher and Prof. Dr. J. Körner I worked on the improvement for the accuracy of the QED coupling constant on the Z pole. We were joined by Dr. Alexei A. Pivovarov, who was guest at Mainz for several times. We extended the analysis to high order relations between physical observables as test for perturbative QCD and analyzed the resummation techniques in tau decays. We also searched for new calculation techniques for sunset diagrams. In this curse we were able to find some configuration space techniques to handle sunset-type diagrams, called water melons, and could reproduce the transcendental numbers obtained in the tetrahedron diagrams of three-loop bubbles within easier topologies. We shall continue the collaboration also be incorporating calculations on radiative corrections to massive baryonic correlators.

In summer 1997 and 1998, Dr. Andrei G. Grozin was guest at the ThEP working group. In cooperation with him we started a project for calculating electric and magnetic formfactors for massive quarks.

About my postdoctoral time at the Cornell University:

Made possible by a grant given by the Max Kade Foundation, on December 1st, 1998 I started a one-year postdoctoral study at the Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. I have started two new collaborations there. In the first one with Prof. Tung-Mow Yan I look for radiative corrections to relations between form factors for the semileptonic decay of heavy mesons which are given by effective theories like the HQET, the NRQCD (Non-relativistic Quantumchromodynamics) or the LEET (Large Energy Effective Theory). In collaboration with Prof. Peter Lepage and Dr. Junko Shigemitsu I work on an Symanzik improvement of the action for Lattice QCD for a corse, anisotropic lattice by calculating radiative corrections. I have refreshed this collaboration during a stay at Cornell University in August and September, 2000, as well as the collaboration with Oleg Yakovlev who moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. In this collaboration we work on threshold mass definitions.

About my habilitation time at the Universität Mainz:

I started my habilitation at the Universität Mainz with my return from Cornell in December 1999. I gave a lecture about the Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) during the Summer 2000 and a lecture "Einführung in die Quantenelektrodynamik (QED)" in Summer 2001. This lecture have been continued in Winter 2001/2002 as "Quantenelektrodynamik II". In July 2002 I submitted my thesis (518 pages) entitled "Bestimmung von Strahlungskorrekturen zur Physik schwerer Hadronen im Rahmen verschiedener effektiver Theorien" ("Calculation of Radiative Corrections within Heavy Hadron Physics for Different Effective Theories", in english) to the dean. After acception of my thesis, on July 23rd, 2003 I successfully passed my examination, giving a talk entitled "Rekonstruktion von Asteroidenbildung im Sonnensystem" ("Reconstruction of Asteroids' Formation in the Solar System"). My inaugural lecture was held on October 31st, 2003 (Reformation day) at 3pm in the nuclear physics building, the title was "Trichter und Schnecken - zur Physik des Ohres" ("Funnels and Snails - about the Ear's Physics"). It was open for everyone.

About my time as senior scientist at Tartu University:

Since January 2005 I am member of the field theory group at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Tartu University, Estonia. The new branch of my research is stochastical physics. In collaboration with Prof. Christian Beck at the Queen Mary University, London I work on stochastic quantization and especially on coupled map lattices and spatio-temporal chaos. With Ph.D. Ilmar Ots, M.Sc. Hannes Liivat and Rein Saar from the Physics Institute in Tartu I am working on high spin physics. Starting from February 2006 I give lecture series at Tartu University in Estonian. In addition I have two master students, Priit Tuvike and Hardi Veermäe, who work on first order QCD and electroweak radiative corrections to the decay of the polarized W boson.

I love Hagen, the town I am born in 1963, although visitors told me that it is ugly and not as representative as other towns in the Ruhrgebiet like e.g. Dortmund, my former place of studies. To give you a small insight in my town, I display a picture of our townhall, only twenty years old. I have painted it for the "Kirchentag im Ruhrgebiet" in 1991, when tenthousands of children came to Hagen to see the Musical "Zack" there. Because of this favour for my town I frequently use the Deutsche Bahn to get from here to there. But on holidays, my favorite country is Sweden or Sverige. After my engagement with Edith Vohu from Tartu on August 12th, 2001, or registration on August 13th, 2003, the birth of our daughter Linda-Reet on January 24th, 2004 and Ediths and my marriage on August 28th, 2004 you will find us more or less in Estonia. On January 1st, 2006 our second daughter Elo-Maarja was born. So be aware to meet me in Tartu (earlier name: Dorpat) at Tartu Ülikoolil!

My hobbies are the following:

parish youth and children work (I am member of the Christian church, lutherian confession and have been member of the council) - this duty just rests in Hagen but I became Web-Master of the parish in Mainz-Hechtsheim in 2001
singing in the choir "Vigholin" in Hohenlimburg
making music on the violoncello, piano or church organ (as you like it)
mit Anderen über Sprache und Schrift reden
tala och läsa på Svenska (om du älskar det)
rääkida eesti keeles (kui Sa tahad)
